Korean People's Army (KPA) Marshal Hyon Chol Hae, General Adviser to the Ministry of National Defence of the DPRK, died of multiple organ failure at 09:00 of May 19, Juche 111 (2022) at the age of 87. An obituary of him was issued by the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the WPK Central Military Commission, the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly on Thursday. According to the obituary, Comrade Hyon Chol Hae was a soldier loyal to President Kim Il Sung and a revolutionary comrade-in-arms loyal to Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. Born in the first half of the 1930s as a son of a member of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army organized and led by Kim Il Sung, he spent his childhood in a foreign country undergoing persecution and maltreatment. After national liberation, Hyon was able to understand a genuine life and happiness under the warm care of Kim Il Sung and studied at Mangyongdae Revolutionary School to grow up to be a core backbone shouldering the future of the country and the revolution. During the rigorous Fatherland Liberation War, he fully displayed matchless valiance and self-sacrificing spirit in the sacred struggle of defending Kim Il Sung with his life as a soldier of the glorious bodyguard company. Under the great political trust of the President, Hyon completed his studies at Kim Chaek University of Technology and overseas and worked at the Party Central Committee and local Party organizations. Since returning to the army in the early 1960s, he had upheld the Party's cause with arms and politically, ideologically and firmly, wearing military uniform all his life. While carrying out the Party political work at responsible jobs of various departments of the KPA General Political Bureau, he made brilliant feats on the forefront of the struggle to realize the Party Central Committee's monolithic guidance over the revolutionary armed forces and ensure the purity of the Party ranks, which would remain long in the history of the Korean revolution. Working as a leading official of a KPA large combined unit and a military academic institution and then as the director of the KPA General Logistics Department, he made significant contributions to the strengthening of the People's Army and the socialist cause. As a leading official of the KPA General Political Bureau, he most closely assisted Kim Jong Il in pursuing the Songun revolutionary leadership during the arduous march, the forced march. And he actively contributed to making sure that the People's Army reliably defended the destiny of the country and the dynamic advance of the revolution with arms and played the role of the main force in bringing about a radical turn in socialist construction. Devoting himself to his important duties in supreme leadership organs of the DPRK armed forces during the period of important historic turn in the succession to the revolutionary cause of Juche, he ensured that the monolithic command system of Kim Jong Un was established across the entire army. He devoted all his wisdom and energies to making the People's Army glorify its honorable history of feats as the revolutionary armed forces faithful to the WPK. He received top grade Party and state commendations including the honorable Order of Kim Il Sung and Order of Kim Jong Il for his distinguished service in the strengthening of the revolutionary armed forces and Party political work in the KPA. Though Hyon Chol Hae passed away, his achievements made before the Party, the revolution, the country and the people will go down along with the victorious advance of the Juche cause.
State Funeral Committee for Hyon Chol Hae Formed The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Central Military Commission of the WPK, the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly issued a notice that the late Hyon Chol Hae would be accorded a state funeral, and formed a state funeral committee.

The hearse is to leave the house at 09:00 of Sunday.

Accompanying him were Choe Ryong Hae, Jo Yong Won, Kim Tok Hun, Pak Jong Chon and Ri Pyong Chol, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, and members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, members of the WPK Central Military Commission, leading officials of the Ministry of National Defence, commanders of the KPA services and commanders and political commissars of the army corps. Amid the playing of dirge, the hall was wrapped in a bitter sorrow over the loss of a prominent political and military activist of our Party, state and revolutionary armed forces who was a soldier faithful to President Kim Il Sung and a revolutionary comrade-in-arms faithful to Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. A wreath in the name of Kim Jong Un was laid before the bier of the deceased. Placed were also wreathes in the names of the WPK Central Committee, the WPK Central Military Commission, the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly and the DPRK Cabinet. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un paid a silent tribute to the memory of Hyon Chol Hae, a veteran of the armed forces organ of the DPRK and a trustworthy revolutionary who performed distinguished feats in the sacred struggle to defend the sovereignty of the nation and the supreme interests of the country with the single-hearted and boundless loyalty and the spirit of devoted service to the Party and the revolution and the country and the people all his life. With bitter grief over the loss of a precious revolutionary comrade who left an indelible and remarkable trace in the Party building and the development of the revolutionary armed forces with the absolute loyalty to the leader, the transparent revolutionary principle and uprightness, he went round the bier of Hyon Chol Hae. Noting that Hyon Chol Hae had fully displayed matchless heroism and self-sacrificing spirit in the struggle to devotedly defend President Kim Il Sung for the past decades from the glorious days of his service in the bodyguard company during the grim Fatherland Liberation War and dedicated himself to the sacred cause of strengthening the People's Army into the revolutionary armed forces faithful only to the leader's guidance while acting as a close aide to Chairman Kim Jong Il pursuing the Songun revolutionary leadership during the Arduous march, the forced march, Kim Jong Un said that his death is a great loss to our Party, army and people, that can be compensated with nothing. Ceremony for Carrying Coffin of Late Hyon Chol Hae Held A ceremony for carrying the coffin of Marshal of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae, General Adviser to the Ministry of National Defence of the DPRK, was held at the April 25 House of Culture on Sunday morning. The venue of the state funeral was filled with bitter grief of bidding farewell to the distinguished political and military activist of our Party and state who followed and upheld the Party and leader single-mindedly and performed immortal achievements on the sacred road of serving the country and the people while glorifying his worthy life as a loyal revolutionary soldier of President Kim Il Sung and a steadfast comrade-in-arms of Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), attended the state funeral. Present were members of the state funeral committee, including Choe Ryong Hae, Jo Yong Won, Kim Tok Hun, Pak Jong Chon and Ri Pyong Chol, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee, members of the WPK Central Military Commission and leading officials of the Ministry of National Defence, and the bereaved family of the deceased. A mourning flag was hung at the April 25 House of Culture where the coffin of the deceased lied. The colors and guards of honor of the three services of the KPA stood near the coffin. Amid the playing of the funeral music, Kim Jong Un, Сhairman of the State Funeral Committee, together with members of the committee, paid silent tribute to the memory of the late Hyon Chol Hae. Hardly repressing the sorrow over the great loss of a steadfast revolutionary who was the most respectful revolutionary forerunner and a veteran of the KPA, Comrade Kim Jong Un carried the coffin out of the funeral hall together with the members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee. Men and officers of the KPA lined up at the plaza of the April 25 House of Culture, expressing regret at parting from the deceased who rendered irreplaceable distinguished services to the building of the Party and armed forces and inheritance and development of the revolutionary cause for a long time spanning 60 years until today of opening up golden days of building up the national power under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un from the glorious days of creating a new history of socialist construction under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il. The guards of honor covered the coffin with the national flag of the DPRK, a sacred flag of honor, out of the respect of all the KPA service personnel. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un saw the coffin off with all the KPA service personnel who gathered at the plaza, expressing deep condolences over the deceased once again. The hearse took the street under the escort of motorcycles after passing a column of the KPA colors and the guards of honor expressing the noble respect for the deceased. On both sides of the avenues, a great many KPA service personnel and citizens gave him a send-off with deep regret over the loss of a true soldier who upheld the Party and the leader with his single mind all his life just like an unchangeable arms of revolution and a model of the patriot who devoted his all to the country and people.

Present there were Choe Ryong Hae, Jo Yong Won, Kim Tok Hun, Pak Jong Chon and Ri Pyong Chol, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, members of the WPK Central Military Commission, leading officials of the Ministry of National Defence and other members of the State Funeral Committee, officials of the WPK Central Committee, servicepersons of the KPA and the bereaved family members of the deceased. A mourning flag was hung at the cemetery and the colors and honor guards of the KPA lined up there. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un received the coffin of the late Hyon Chol Hae at the entrance of the cemetery, together with members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee. He climbed the cemetery with members of the state funeral committee and bereaved family members following the remains of the deceased. Comrade Kim Jong Un paid noble tribute to the martyrs buried at the cemetery before the ceremony. With declaration of the ceremony the national anthem of the DPRK was solemnly played. Pak Jong Chon, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, made a eulogy. A ceremony for burying the remains of the late Hyon Chol Hae was held. 180 volleys for the deceased were fired out of bitterness upon parting forever from the prominent political and military activist who made an immortal contribution to the Party, revolution, country and people at a historic time when the Korean people win a great victory full of confidence and vitality. Comrade Kim Jong Un spread earth on the remains, repressing his sorrow over the last parting with a precious veteran of revolution whom he heartily respected and dearly treasured. The members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee and bereaved family members spread earth on the remains. Warmly recollecting the sincere and devoted life of the veteran revolutionary who upheld the Party and leader with faith, conscience and obligation all his life, free from affectation and inconstancy, he was overwhelmed with bitterness. A wreath in the name of Kim Jong Un was placed before the grave amid the playing of the wreath-laying music. Wreathes in the names of the WPK Central Committee, the WPK Central Military Commission, the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly and the DPRK Cabinet were laid there. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, together with all the participants in the ceremony, paid a silent tribute in memory of the late Hyon Chol Hae who became the firm root of our great state with his revolutionary life and undying achievements. Saying that whenever recollecting the arduous Songun march made by Chairman Kim Jong Il, he comes to think about Comrade Hyon Chol Hae first who always remained faithful to the Chairman as his closest political and military aide, Kim Jong Un stressed that the life of a revolutionary soldier shining in the sacred history of the leader is the most vivid expression of the most worthwhile life. He said that though the veteran revolutionary passed away, the name of Hyon Chol Hae would be always remembered along with the august name of Kim Jong Il and his noble soul and spirit would be immortal along with the cause of our Party winning victory after victory with each passing day and remarkable development of our great state and armed forces of the Republic. Hyon Chol Hae, a steadfast revolutionary who remained boundlessly faithful to the revolutionary idea and cause of the Party Central Committee till the last moments of his life, will always be kept in the noble memory of the great leader and in the mind of our people and servicepersons vigorously advancing towards the final victory of the Juche revolution.
