DPRK Damaged by Typhoon-13

 

Damage occurred in the DPRK by Typhoon-13 that hit the country between about 14:00 on Saturday and 00:00 on Sunday.

According to data available from the State Emergency Disaster Committee, five persons were dead and three persons injured. The injured persons are now under treatment at hospitals.

A nationwide tally showed that more than 460 houses of 210 blocks and 15 blocks of public buildings were completely or partly destroyed or inundated.

Crops fell down, inundated or buried in 46 200 hectares of farmland.

Active work to eradicate the aftermath is now under way in the afflicted areas.

 

Typhoon No. 13 hit different areas of Korea, causing damages.

According to data available, the roof of the Haeju Smeltery was gone, the roofs of houses caved in in Unchon County of South Hwanghae Province, causing the loss of lives. And the wounded have been sent to hospital for treatment.

Due to the downpour, more than 510 hectares of paddy fields were half under water in Jaeryong County and over 520 hectares of paddy fields in Unchon County of South Hwanghae Province. The agricultural sector has suffered heavy damages in Haeju City and Yonan, Paechon, Ongjin, Kangryong and Samchon Counties of South Hwanghae Province and in Phyongsan County of North Hwanghae Province.

An electric power substation was damaged in Songhwa County of South Hwanghae Province and power supply to different villages in Chongdan County and Haeju City of the province and Kaesong City was suspended. Dwelling houses, shops, hospitals, farms, factories and middle schools were partially destroyed or damaged in Haeju City and Kangryong, Samchon, Songhwa, Yonan and Pyoksong Counties.

Roofs of many buildings were gone and walls pulled down in Pyongyang City and North Hwanghae and South Hamgyong Provinces.

The Taeori embankment in Unjon County of North Phyongan Province was damaged and train and car services between Kujang and Ryongsan and between Yonggwang and Jangjin were suspended owing to the damages by typhoon. Transport sector suffered great damages.

The officials, working people and service personnel of the People's Army, who were reliably defending their posts in response to the call of the Workers' Party of Korea on thoroughly ensuring the lives, property and security of the people and safeguarding the natural resources of the country and the gains of the revolution by minimizing the damages by typhoon, have run to the afflicted areas at once to heal the damages by typhoon.
