Campaign against Drought Damage Brisk in DPRK

Drought and high temperature have been persisting in the west coast and middle inland areas of the DPRK.

Such abnormal phenomena affected the growth of crops in farms of North and South Hwanghae and South Phyongan provinces, Nampho City and other parts of the country.

In particular, rice paddies in Ongjin, Kangryong and Hwangju counties are getting cracked and 47 percent of the area of paddy fields in Kumchon County got dry.

To cope with such situation, a campaign against drought damage is now going on in the country.

The agricultural sector has taken steps to raise the operation rate of irrigation equipment and secure the water resources by digging waterways, water holes and wells and installing tube wells.

And ministries, national institutions and industrial establishments and institutions in provinces, cities and counties have mobilized tens of thousands of water transport means, pumping equipment and much manpower to water fields at drought-affected farms.

Meanwhile, farms in different parts of the country are creating conditions favorable to the growth of crops by using water effectively along with such technical measures as nutrient solution spray and cutting of corn leaves.
