On January 22, the Russian Executive Committee of the DPRK International Solidarity Group held a meeting in the St. Petersburg City Committee of the Lenin Komsomol.

Nikita Dobrov, Secretary of the St. Petersburg City Committee of the Komsomol of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Youth Parliament at the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and Regional Secretary of the DPRK ISG in the Northwestern Federal District, led the event.

The meeting was attended by Comrades Alexander Mostov (Chairman of the Coordination Committee of the DPRK ISG), Egor Mikhailov (First Secretary of the St. Petersburg State Committee of the Komsomol of the Russian Federation), Konstantin Asmolov (Leading Researcher at the Center for Korean Studies of the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of the Scientific Department of the DPRK ISG), Gleb Targonsky (Member of the Scientific Department of the DPRK ISG) and activist Diana Tian. It was also visited by Komsomol members and figures of international solidarity, studying the results of the 9th Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the WPK of the Eighth Convocation.

Comrade Mostov, Leader of the DPRK ISG, explained to the audience the results of the historic December Plenary Meeting of the party.

He said that the DPRK actually recognizes the geopolitical reality:

“On the Korean Peninsula there are two states hostile to each other with different socio-political systems. There is no possibility of peaceful unification with the traitor Yoon Suk Yeol and the rebels of the “Republic of Korea”, who, under any convenient pretext, repeatedly violate the concluded agreements and indulge in unnecessary dreams about the “imminent fall of socialism” in the DPRK.

We must finally get rid of the misunderstanding of the nature of South Korean society, from inappropriate fantasies about the imminent rise of some kind of “workers' movement” capable of starting an uprising and carrying out the work of reunifying the Motherland. Such sentiments have approximately the same negligible influence on the politics of the “Republic of Korea” as the actions of non-systemic leftists have on the politics of Russia. The real majority of South Korean society is extremely Westernized and sees only the absorption of the North into a “liberal democratic” system, similar to the annexation of the GDR in 1990, as possible. In addition, it was often South Korea that blocked most humanitarian initiatives, blaming the responsibility on the United States - this indicates who is the real enemy and the culprit of tension in the region.”

The speech emphasized that the DPRK ISG now has the necessary basis for breaking the information blockade. In difficult conditions, when the “Republic of Korea”, together with the United States and Japan, is practicing an attack on the DPRK, our organization counts on the constant support of the Komsomol and all progressive organizations.

Then the meeting participants watched a documentary about the results of the 9th Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the WPK of the eighth convocation in Russian and listened to the Internationale.

Comrade Mikhailov made a welcoming speech.

He said that the current Plenary Meeting demonstrated the successes of the socialist economy under the conditions of severe sanctions, especially in terms of production, light and heavy industry. And he expressed confidence that Russia should follow the example of the achievements of the DPRK.

The special value of friendship with the Korean people in modern conditions is also emphasized.

Comrade Asmolov gave a lecture on the causes of tension on the Korean Peninsula and the inter-Korean confrontation.

He pointed out to the audience that claims of “aggression from the North” were untrue and spoke at length about the security dilemma posed by the arms race. According to the speaker, the parties admit the possibility of war and have prepared well for it, which is largely due to the rejection of illusions about the possibility of the peaceful unification of Korea.

The speaker gave a historical excursion on the positions of the DPRK and the ROK on the issue of Korean unification in retrospect, spoke about the prospects for the containment system between the DPRK and the ROK, and listed the possibilities of starting a new Korean War.

Concluding the report, he expressed hope that the leadership in both the North and the South contains pragmatists who will not allow an even greater escalation of the conflict.

Comrade Targonsky emphasized that in order to convey the truth about the DPRK, it is especially important in modern conditions to fight myths in the Russian left environment, and emphasized that interest in Korea is increasing in Russian society.

He discussed with the head of our organization the possibilities for developing cooperation and answered questions from the audience.

Comrade Dobrov spoke about the positive dynamics in relations between Russia and Korea. He noted that the Korean example proved the effectiveness of a planned economy in difficult geopolitical conditions and called the current course of the Russian government, aimed at growing the public sector in the economy, justified. In his opinion, Russia needs to adopt the best practices of friendly countries, including the DPRK.

The report notes that left forces need to make more efforts to support the DPRK, because At the moment, the right has already rethought its attitude towards this country and is actively establishing relations with it.

Then, summing up the meeting, Comrade Tian made an analysis of the December Plenary Meeting.
